Since October 2006, Dr. Josef Braml has been affiliated with the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), initially serving as Managing Editor and Editor of the Yearbook on International Politics, and from June 2019 onward as Director of the Americas Program. Additionally, since January 2020, he has held the position of Secretary General of the German Group of the Trilateral Commission.
Beginning in 2021, he has applied over two decades of research and academic policy advisory experience to teaching and research at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, contributing to the development of a transatlantic research and advisory focus at the Center for Advanced Security, Strategic and Integration Studies (CASSIS).

He earned his doctorate in political science, sociology, and French cultural studies from the University of Passau in 2001. His academic background also includes studies in languages, economics, and cultural studies at the University of Passau and the Université de Nice – Sophia Antipolis, along with completing a banking apprenticeship.
