Since 2003, Bernhard Heusler has increasingly engaged with FC Basel 1893. Initially serving as legal advisor to the Board of Directors, he was elected Vice President in 2006 and assumed operational responsibility as Delegate of the Board in 2009. Under his leadership, FC Basel 1893 secured eight consecutive Swiss championships, reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and quarter-finals, and qualified six times for the UEFA Champions League.
After studying law at the Universities of Basel and Davis (California) and earning a doctorate in constitutional law, Bernhard Heusler worked as a business lawyer specializing in M&A and IT law, first in New York (1995) and later in Basel at Wenger Plattner. From August 2014 to late 2017, he was counsel at Walder Wyss AG’s Basel office.
Upon taking operational management duties, Bernhard Heusler became the majority shareholder of FC Basel Holding AG. In 2012, he was elected Chairman of both FC Basel 1893 (club) and FC Basel 1893 AG (public limited company). During his tenure, the club’s turnover grew from approximately EUR 40 million (2009) to between EUR 100-130 million (2015/2016). In summer 2017, Bernhard Heusler and the entire management team stepped down, transferring shares in FC Basel Holding AG to new ownership. He was then named the club’s second honorary president in its history.

In recognition of his contributions and accomplishments with FC Basel 1893, Bernhard Heusler has received several honors:
- Basel Star (2013), awarded by the “Sternen Komitee” for exceptional services to the city of Basel,
- “Award for outstanding Leadership and Teamwork” (2016), presented by the World Forum for Ethics in Sport and Business at the 2nd World Summit on Ethics and Leadership in Sports, recognizing values-based leadership and teamwork at FC Basel 1893;
- “Ehrenspalebärglemer” (2016), granted by the Sperberkollegium for distinguished services to Basel (since 1976);
- Honorary President of FC Basel 1893 (2017);
- Honorary member of the Swiss Football League (2017)
Bernhard Heusler serves as President of the “Foundation for Sick Children in Basel.” He frequently speaks on corporate and team leadership at business events, management seminars, and academic programs. He is married and has two children.
