Anja Blacha: “I will challenge myself to the utmost to prove that limits do not exist.”

Anja Blacha is a world record-holding extreme athlete. She completed a solo, unsupported, and unassisted journey of 1,400 km from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole in 58 days, marking the longest such expedition by a woman in history. Upon arrival, she planted her flag with the slogan “NOT BAD FOR A GIRL.”

She ranks as the fifth woman globally (or third, according to Eberhard Jurgalski’s True Summit classification) to summit thirteen of the fourteen 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen and has reached Mount Everest’s summit three times. She was the first German woman to conquer K2, Kangchenjunga, Annapurna I, and Gasherbrum I. Additionally, she is the youngest German to complete the Seven Summits, the tallest mountains on each continent.

Anja Blacha dedicates her adventures to all women, challenging stereotypes by showing what women can accomplish through meticulous planning, focus, motivation, and persistence, even without extraordinary physical strength.

In addition to her athletic pursuits, Anja Blacha was a fencer and was honored as Sportswoman of the Year by the University of London in 2012.

In 2013, while backpacking through South America with her sister, she discovered the ancient city of Machu Picchu in Peru. In 2018, Zeit Campus magazine featured her in its #18FÜR18 series as one of 18 individuals under 30 “making Germany better.” The editorial team noted: “What we can learn from her: Stay grounded despite top performance. And take the trash back with you.” Anja Blacha had previously shared, “During the expedition, I collected empty cans and bottles left behind.”

Her latest expeditions attracted significant media attention, and her campaign “Not Bad for A Girl” received multiple awards at the New York Festivals Advertising Awards.
