After studying in the United States and completing his doctorate and postdoctoral qualification in Frankfurt, he spent ten years working as a banker and management consultant on both national and international projects. Since 2008, he has held a professorship in personal finance at the House of Finance at Goethe University Frankfurt. He has chaired the BaFin Advisory Board, served on the Stock Market Experts Commission at the Federal Ministry of Finance, and currently advises organizations such as the World Economic Forum and the European Commission.

His research is published in top international journals, including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance.
