Peter Fischer has served as President of Eintracht Frankfurt for 23 years. Beyond his sporting achievements, his unwavering dedication to democratic principles stands as his enduring legacy. Alongside his club responsibilities, he is a strong advocate for clear values and attitudes, particularly in combating far-right parties and extremism.
When Peter Fischer became manager of Eintracht Frankfurt in 2000, the club was facing severe challenges. The sporting situation was dire, with relegation from the Bundesliga in his first season and the German Football League (DFL) initially denying a license in 2002, which was ultimately granted. Over the 23 years since his appointment, Eintracht Frankfurt has grown to over 130,000 members participating in more than 50 sports. The club won the DFB Cup in 2018 and the UEFA Cup in 2022.
Throughout these years, Peter Fischer has been a prominent figure, easily recognized by his towering height of two meters. At times charismatic, at others combative, he has consistently been a dedicated supporter and spokesperson for Eintracht Frankfurt. The strong bond between fans and the club is partly due to Fischer’s active involvement in key roles, understanding the needs of members, athletes, and supporters, engaging with them, debating, and celebrating alongside them.
One of Peter Fischer’s notable accomplishments is his persistent promotion of the values he has always championed. He acknowledges the sociopolitical influence a soccer club can wield and embraces this as a responsibility. Fischer has openly and firmly opposed extremist and racist movements in Germany. For him, freedom, democracy, and tolerance are core values that he has steadfastly defended. In 2022, he was awarded the Buber-Rosenzweig Medal in recognition of his contributions.
In February 2024, Peter Fischer was named honorary president of Eintracht Frankfurt. He is available as a speaker and participant in discussion panels.
