Eva Ries is a German music manager, author, and psychological counselor, widely recognized for her extensive collaboration with the iconic hip hop group Wu-Tang Clan.

In her role as marketing manager, she was instrumental in transforming the legendary hip hop collective from an underground sensation into a globally recognized cult brand.

Eva Ries started her career at major record labels including Geffen, RCA, and Sony. As a German woman making a career change, she established herself in a challenging, male-dominated industry, developing strong leadership and communication abilities along the way.

Who is Eva Ries?

Eva spent part of her childhood in Bilbao, Spain, which fostered her early openness to diverse cultures. After high school, she studied photography and trained professionally as an advertising specialist. She gained initial work experience at companies like John Deere, Fein, and BASF before pursuing her passion for music and entering the industry.

Eva Ries launched her music career as a Product Manager at Geffen Records/MCA in Hamburg, working with legendary artists such as Nirvana, Guns N’ Roses, and Aerosmith. She later advanced her career in the U.S., joining RCA Records in New York City. In the early 1990s, she became International Marketing Manager for Loud Records’ urban artist roster, including the Wu-Tang Clan. For over twenty years, she was part of the group’s inner circle, managing global tours, marketing strategies, and collaborating closely with RZA, the Clan’s creative leader. These experiences immersed her deeply in hip-hop culture and tested her personal resilience, which she later recounted in her autobiographical book “Wu-Tang is Forever”.

As Vice President of International Marketing Urban Music at Sony Music Entertainment, Eva Ries worked with the renowned rapper Nas, known as “The King of NY.” While acting as booking agent for the Wu-Tang Clan, she earned a master’s degree in counseling from The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and provided counseling to disadvantaged youth at a high school in Trenton, New Jersey, earning recognition from the U.S. Department of Education. She holds the title of National Certified Counselor (NCC) in the United States.

After spending more than 25 years in the U.S., Eva Ries returned to Germany in 2018. In Mannheim, she taught “Psychology of Childhood and Adolescence” in a Social Work program at a private university. She completed advanced training in systemic psychological coaching in Germany and is qualified as a psychological expert for family court cases. Additionally, she serves as a volunteer lay judge in juvenile criminal matters at the District Court of Mannheim.

Currently, Eva Ries manages the music careers of the “Elevator Boys” and the international rock band “COSMODROME”.
