Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Lars P. Feld (born 1966, married with three children) has held the position of university professor of economics, focusing on economic policy and regulatory economics, at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg and has been the director of the Walter Eucken Institute since 2010. He serves as a member of the German Council of Economic Experts, the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry of Finance, and the Independent Advisory Board of the Stability Council. Additionally, he is the spokesperson for the Kronberger Kreis (Scientific Advisory Board of the Stiftung Marktwirtschaft) and a full member of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina (National Academy of Sciences). In 2017, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Lucerne.

After completing his economics studies at the University of Saarland, Lars Feld earned his doctorate at the University of St. Gallen in 1999 and completed his habilitation there in 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, he was a university professor specializing in economics and finance at Philipps University of Marburg, and from 2006 to 2010, he held a similar position at Ruprecht-Karls University of Heidelberg. He declined offers from the universities of Trier, Lucerne, and ETH Zurich.

In 2007, Lars Feld was appointed as an expert for the Bundestag and Bundesrat Commission on the Modernization of Federal-Länder Fiscal Relations (Federalism Commission II), contributing advisory expertise to Germany’s new debt brake. He was a member of the expert commission “Strengthening Investment in Germany” of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (“Fratzscher Commission”) in 2014 and 2016. From 2004 to 2012, he served as lead editor of Perspectives on Economic Policy, and from 2007 to 2009, he was president of the European Public Choice Society.

He is a member of the Research Advisory Board of the Rheinisch-Westfälisches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (RWI) Essen, the Executive Committee of the Institute of Finance and Financial Law at the University of St. Gallen, the Board of Trustees of the IMPULS Foundation of the German Engineering Federation (VDMA), the Foundation Board of the Stiftung Geld & Währung of the Deutsche Bundesbank, and participates in various editorial boards of academic journals and publication series. He is also active in several scientific societies and institutions.

His research focuses on multiple areas including economic policy, public finance, new political economy, and the economic analysis of law. His publications comprise six monographs, 96 articles in international peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Public Economics, European Economic Review, Economic Policy, Journal of Banking and Finance, Scandinavian Journal of Economics, Public Choice, and European Journal of Political Economy, 105 papers in conference proceedings and collected volumes, along with various other works.
