The fact that ‘food and drink keep body and soul together’ is certainly not a new discovery. However, this does not mean that this ancient wisdom has lost its relevance in the 21st century, which is why catering for event participants has a rightful place in our lexicon.
What does F&B (Food and Beverage) mean?
Following the general trend of replacing as many time-honoured terms as possible with trendy Anglicisms, event professionals like to talk about F&B. This refers to ‘food and beverage’, i.e. all areas of the catering and hotel industry that deal with the preparation and sale of food and beverages and, of course, are an essential part of any event worth its salt.
F&B encompasses all related activities, from the planning and preparation of food and beverages to their presentation and service to guests.
F&B departments can be found in restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, cruise ships and other hospitality establishments. The F&B department is traditionally often one of the most profitable sectors of the catering and hotel industry.
