Streaming events have been an integral part of the event industry for several years now. But what exactly is the difference between a livestream, a digital or hybrid event, an online event, and a virtual event? Our article in the fiylo event lexicon explains it all.
What is a streaming event?
With the application of new technologies and the integration of social networks, live broadcasting has given way to streaming events. Unlike live broadcasting, streaming takes place via new platforms.
So instead of broadcasting a marketing seminar live, for example, a streaming event takes place entirely without a physically present audience. There are a variety of platforms and streaming services that enable real-time broadcasting of events, allowing far more than just those physically present to participate.
Television stations and media outlets are also becoming increasingly interested in this type of communication, as it is equally suitable for promoting products, live streaming festivals, concerts, and theater performances, as well as for business or company meetings. Numerous classic event formats can also be implemented digitally. Organizers offer events in the form of livestreams, digital events, virtual events, or hybrid events. The latter combines the best of the analog and digital worlds.
A virtual event offers the opportunity to stay in contact with customers, employees, or shareholders during the event. Modern technologies ensure a high degree of interaction, for example, by allowing questions and comments to be incorporated directly into the program.
With the technology required for the respective format, e.g., lighting, sound, video, and network technology, the possible use of a green screen or blue screen for an appealing digital stage design, stream encoding, and a streaming platform, events are broadcast live to viewers around the world in a professional manner and tailored to the target audience.
