The abbreviation MICE is composed of the English terms Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Events. In an increasingly globalised world, the term MICE has also become established in the United Kingdom. You can find out exactly what event formats and services are behind these business events in the fiylo event encyclopaedia.

What does MICE mean?

MICE is an acronym that stands for meetings, incentives, conventions and events. It refers to services that encompass the planning and execution of

meetings = conferences

incentives = reward and motivational trips,

conventions = congresses and

events = other events.

These four MICE pillars cover all types of business or corporate events: conferences, meetings, seminars, congresses, Christmas parties, workshops, summer parties, kick-offs, training courses, general meetings, etc.

Outside the industry, ‘conference industry’ or ‘conference sector’ are common terms for MICE. Digital events or live streaming events are described by the term e-MICE. The reason for this is the fact that in future, more and more events or business events in general will have at least one digital component. In this case, we already refer to online events and hybrid events today.

The tourism and convention industry is also known as the MICE industry. This term describes a specific type of tourism in which, in contrast to business travel by individual business travellers, large groups meet for a gathering, either physically on site or purely online.
